The 5 healthiest berries you can eat

The 5 healthiest berries you can eat

Berries are small, soft and round fruits of various colours, mainly blue, red or purple. They are sweet and almost always acidulous, and have been harvested for thousands of years. Nowadays we use them for the preparation of preserves, jams and desserts, but recently they have returned to the forefront for their healthy properties. Do you know which are the healthiest berries?

The berries, although small, tend to have an excellent nutritional profile. They are typically rich in fibres, vitamin C and antioxidant polyphenols. That's why they are particularly appreciated, as well as for their irresistible taste. Here are the healthiest berries you can find.

1. Blueberries

Blueberries are among the most famous, good and versatile berries. They are excellent sources of vitamin K, fibre, vitamin C, manganese and anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants.

These valuable dark-blue blueberry colouring substances can reduce oxidative stress while reducing the risk of heart disease in both healthy and high-risk people. Blueberries can also lower levels of "bad" LDL cholesterol in the blood, reducing the risk of heart attack and improving arterial function.

Blueberries also appear to have the ability to improve cognitive functions. That's why we created the Little Buddha Magic Blueberry, so that children can grow healthy and intelligent!

2. Raspberries

Raspberries are sweet, acidic and literally drive you crazy with their delicate taste. They are rich in vitamin C, K, manganese and fibre and antioxidant polyphenols called ellagitannins, which can help reduce oxidative stress.

Their characteristics, very similar to those of blueberries make them particularly healthy, and it is no coincidence that our Buddha’s Awakening Raspberry is one of the most appreciated.

3. Goji Berry

Goji berries originate in China and are used in traditional medicine for thousands of years. They contain high levels of vitamin A and zeaxanthin, both important for eye health.

Like many other berries, goji berries contain antioxidant polyphenols. In addition to being good for the skin and fightinh cell oxidation, goji berries can help you lose weight by activating your metabolism.

How do you eat them? You can eat them directly from the bag, to stock up on antioxidants, but you can also find them in our Toppings & Snacks, such as Love Mix, and you can use them to make fantastic recipes!

4. Strawberries

Strawberries are the most consumed berries in the world and also one of the best sources of vitamin C. Common sense wants strawberries to be good for your heart's health. Science confirms it: strawberries reduce the risk of heart attack, can reduce a number of risk factors for heart disease, including blood cholesterol, triglycerides and oxidative stress.

Strawberries can also reduce inflammation by lowering inflammatory chemicals in the blood, they can help control blood sugar levels, useful for preventing diabetes.

We couldn't exclude strawberries from our exclusive recipes: they embellish the Acai, Banana and Strawberry Buddha’s Awakening and Energy Bars!

5. Acai Berries

Acai berries grow on Acai palms in the Brazilian Amazon region. They are the richest berries in antioxidants, and for this reason they have become very famous all over the world.

Acai berries are in fact one of the best sources of antioxidant polyphenols and can contain up to 10 times more antioxidants than blueberries. In addition to being a panacea for fighting cell aging, they are able to reduce blood sugar, insulin and cholesterol levels in overweight adults.

The problem with Acai berries is that they oxidize as soon as they are harvested. A paradox for the queens of antioxidants! They are delicate, so they should be consumed on the spot, at the moment. But not everyone can afford this luxury... then all we have to do is freeze-dry them, i.e. freeze them immediately and reduce them to powder. In this way, the Acai berries maintain all their nutritional values and health properties.

That’s exactly what we do! Our Acai powder is prepared in this way, and you can add it to yoghurt, to your breakfasts like porridge or to drinks and smoothies. It will surprise you with its captivating taste!
